Tune Ability Wins Technology Award at the Markel 3rd Sector Care Awards

About

Tune Ability

Tune Ability is a radio station entirely run by adults with learning disabilities and autism, supported by Blackpool‑based charity One Fylde. What began as a simple podcast during the isolating times of the COVID‑19 lockdown quickly grew into a lifeline – connecting people, families and communities through the power of radio. Today, Tune Ability is a thriving station that champions creativity, confidence and real opportunities.

More than just a radio station, Tune Ability is a place where voices are heard, skills are developed and people are supported to lead, create and communicate in ways that work for them.

An Amazing Achievement

The Awards

The judges praised our innovative use of technology, recognising the strong focus on choice, control and accessibility. They highlighted how our station puts people first – enabling the presenters to decide how they create content, build skills and share their voices – while delivering clear outcomes around confidence, inclusion and personal development.

The award recognises exactly what Tune Ability stands for: Technology that empowers people, not limits them.

Darran Wilson, Creative & Inclusion Lead at One Fylde, said:

“This award belongs to our presenters. Your ideas, your voices and your commitment are what made this possible. Tune Ability proves what can happen when people are given the right support, the right tools and the freedom to be themselves.”

Thank You

We would also like to thank Voodoo Agency, who kindly contributed towards the cost of the awards tickets, helping to make it possible for the Tune Ability team to attend the event and celebrate this incredible achievement together.

This national recognition marks a huge milestone for Tune Ability, and everyone involved, celebrating what’s possible when inclusion, creativity and community come together.
