Joanna's success
Joanna , who lives in St Annes, last year triumphed in the dressage, working trails and horse care categories at the North West Special Olympics, being awarded a bronze medal and rosette for each one. Now at this year’s event, held at Wirral Riding Centre in West Cheshire, Joanna who is a member of the North West Equestrian Team, which is also based there, won:
- A silver medal in the Dressage
- A bronze medal in the Horse Working Trials
- A bronze medal in the Horse Care Category
Joanna was supported by her One Fylde staff members Elizabeth Tyler and Elizabeth Donnelly, who were also Special Olympics Volunteers.
'Joanna the Superstar'
One Fylde CEO Tracey Bush said, “This is fantastic news. We are delighted for Joanna and her team of support workers. We are so proud of them all, these are brilliant achievements, well done!”
Joanna, who has been horse riding since she was a child, also paid tribute to her equine co-star ‘Lottie Lots/Lottie Pops’, a Welsh Cob Pony, who Joanna rode throughout the competition.
A few words from Joanna...
Joanna’s double successes follows her joining the Wirral Riding Centre – which is home to the North West Special Olympics Equine Team – nearly three years ago. Joanna said,
“I was thrilled to win another three medals, It is an intensely competitive event and I’m delighted with the success again this year, particularly achieving my first silver medal. I would like to say a huge thank you to Elizabeth and Liz, who were both great support, and to ‘Lottie Lots/Lottie Pops’, who was amazing on the day and a pleasure to ride.
I have been horse riding with Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) since I was a very young child and it was so nice to again demonstrate what I have learnt and my progression. It was a wonderful experience and I am very much looking forward to competing again in the future.”
